Chess Candidates Tournament 2016 is started in Moscow

Chess Candidates Tournament is stage of the competition cycle of the chess world championship. It is the biggest chess tournament in the world, not considering the match between the current undisputed champion and the winner of this tournament.

The Chess Candidates Tournament 2016 is held in Moscow from 11 to 29 March 2016. The 8 grandmasters will compete for the opportunity to challenge the reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen (Norway) in November this year in New York.

The tournament will be held in two rounds, a total of 14 games. The prize fund – 420 000 euro.

3. Ratio Sonneborn-Berger.

If all parameters are equal, tie-break will be held on 29 March.

Time control: 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 moves and 15 minutes before the end of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from the first move.

Match days: 11-13, 15-17, 19-21, 23-25, 27, 28 March. Rest days: 14, 18, 22, 26 March.

Games start: at 3 p.m.
